Is there anyway we can get a good solid satellite image of some WIHAs to see what fields have been hayed or grazed so we dont waste time looking at them?

Google Earth has a subscription service. Otherwise its free stuff is dated. I pulled up a free Google Earth image the other day and it was two years old.

Dang it. That's what I thought. It'd be nice if KWD would post on their website which fields have been hayed or grazed in which section. They already have them number, that wouldn't be hard and it would save us a lot of time and effort. They could just post it on their website so we could cross that off our list.

not posting it is part of the fair chase idea......besides, you may see a few birds running into a fenceline or brush pile that you otherwise wouldn't waste your time hunting.....especially early in the season when it is still warm and birds are getting pushed around alot, they can be anywhere, anywhere there is a little cover in a pasture, i have seen it many times....also, you can't see everything from the road and anything they posted as hayed could be biased and likely not up to date.......just hit the road and peel your eyeballs, that's how it is done, unless you live locally and can pre season scout.....:)

If it was hayed, weren't they only allowed to hay half of it? Likewise, if it was grazed, I thought the grazing was limited to about half of the normal practice.

i doubt KDWP has any interest in pressing the issue, most of the guys, i am quite sure, cut and baled what they wanted.....the state desperately needs to keep the acreage in the program, figuring in a tough year, they can turn their heads......;)

They have to leave half of the acres they don't hay or graze. One of the best hunting spots I had last year was some Wiha that all looked hayed from the road. Along the back side over the hill it wasn't hayed and had a big draw through it. I killed dozens of birds out of that draw last year.

How much they hayed or grazed is not in KDWPT's "jurisdiction", except as it might pertain to WIHA lease payments. I agree that KDWPT is not likely to make much of a fuss about it because they need the landowners.

NRCS or some other part of USDA should be very concerned about it, though.

My point was that if landowners are following the rules, we shouldn't see CRP fields completely hayed or grazed down to nothing. As fsentkilr said, we saw several tracts last year that were partially hayed or grazed.

NRCS would take it very serious if they weren't following the 50% rule. They could have to pay all there payments back plus penalties. Now remember quite a bit of this crp is coming out and not getting reenrolled. It could be in WIHA and the owner can do whatever they want with it. I don't know any farmers that would intentionally violate the 50% rule in the emergency regs but I suppose there may be some.

The ground that I saw in Norton county was completely hayed and the other fields had cows on all of it. Maybe they were taking it out anyway to plant crops but it was pretty rough.
