Sandy Hills State Park

I drew a one day "special" hunt through KDWPT for this area. The hunt is scheduled for next week, but I have never been there, and don't know anything about it from a bird hunting perspective.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the area or hunted it before? I just trying to figure out if it is a good spot and or an area that typically holds birds. I wish there was more WIHA near by to hunt the next day but I don't see much. I am starting to wonder if my time would be better spent heading in another direction?

Of course any help is much appreciated.

I drew that hunt a couple of years ago. Its a rough walk. Lots of plum thickets. I believe we found 2 coveys. Its not really a good spot for pheasants.

Is that the one northeast of Hutch? I meant to apply for several of those hunts, but the deadline slipped by. Good luck!

It has really gone woody in the past 15 years. They quit putting much fire on it and the productivity has gone downhill. It's now managed as a park where it was managed more like a wildlife area 20 years ago. I think I've hunted it 3-4 times and it can be good when managed for lower successional plant stages. With it being grown up, it'll take some work. I had better luck on the east end when I hunted it.
