Sand spurs?

I would say that you ARE likely to encounter them in SW Kansas. I have never booted my dogs while hunting in SW Kansas, but I have had to a little foot doctoring (rarely).

In semi-arid parts of Ks, Ne, Okla, and elsewhere, any where the soil has been disturbed, i.e. where cattle have stood around by a windmill, blow-outs, etc., you will find sand burrs. Dogs will learn to handle them, with some exposure. Be careful with them yourself, they stick and hurt bad! when you try to pull them out of clothes or dogs.
