Ruff Grouse hatch

Seen a hen with her youngon's today. Looked like she had a nice bunch. They were running in and out of the grass, so I couldn't count them all.

Can't wait for those Indian Summer days in October and a walk in the woods. When the tree's are in full color.
 
Northern Michigan had a very long, cold and wet Spring.

Fingers crossed for a good hatch but wont be surprised if its not.

So did Minnesota but I heard more drumming this spring then I have heard in many years. Good sign with the one hatch I seen. I hope it's a great year. I love hunting grouse. The deep snow this winter is what is needed for the grouse to bury themselves in the snow to avoid being eaten.
 
very good to hear onpoint we are at the bottom of the 10 yr cycle are we not here in MN??? i guess it will only get better from here if so!!! cant wait my new 14 month old small munsterlander will be in her prime in a few yrs when we are at the peak of the 10 yr cycle!!! lol

wear abouts are you in MN if you dont mind me asking??? no towns needed unless you want to that is... lol NW, NC, NE, central MN??? we have a deer/grouse hunting shack up near aitkin area & theres always a few birds around but not worth me going up on a down yr as there is always more then a few other hunters around as we are surrounded by state land & also there is better areas to hunt then wear our cabin is located but there is birds around... didnt hear much drum n this spring thow???

i chased ruffed grouse around the woods for many yrs now i realize i feel in love with the prairie & the prairie grouse species much more then ruffed grouse just wish the prairie grouse were white meat like the ruffed are!!! lol i do love to head way up on the canadian border & chase ruffed & spruce grouse in the NE i do like spruce grouse for hunting very cool bird!!! you have any in ur hunting area???

i will be heading up way up north come this grouse opener to the part of the state wear you can get into both ruffed & prairie grouse with just a short drive & even walk sometimes thats my kind of hunt a mixed bag i love to see my dog work the prairie & then also work her in heavy cover on the same trip i dont want her to just get used to hunting 1 cover type if i can help it i need her to hunt it all well... lol can not wait man im ready to go!!! lol
