RR tracks?

Where you all are in MN have you been informed that walking the wide old productive RR tracks is now off limmits? We still have been useing them here and there up in west central MN Like people have since the begining of time it seems. The company has not yet gone to Post 911 panic. And I here thats what started this down south. In BE area I used to hunt some of them as a kid and that always had some birds, Now I here you get fined for going, is this true? I can't believe it. that was one of the only places a kid or someone had to go in some of those areas. My brother in law said he called I think BN and he was sent to a recording right away babbleing about "Due to 911 there is no traffic or tresspassing alowed anymore for your safety" I thought to myself Now is that going to keep Osama and his terrorist group off the tracks? HECK NO! they would laugh at the recording and turn to eachother and say to eachother in some jibberish crap we can't understand "we have a new way to travel", They are trying to stop us with a recording, Haa haa haa aah. If the excuse is to protect us I just don't think a recording and a little white sign will cut it and most places I guess there is no sign. I know they can't possibly do it every where in rural US but keeping people out there hunting would at the very least have eyes out there to see any suspicious stuff going on I don't know.I wonder if this has happened every where.?

We used to hunt the tracks all of the time when I was growing up. We either walked the tracks from Winnebago to Huntley or to Delavan. I think it was probably not something we were supposed to do then either but it was the easiest walking we could do.

My guess is they can't let people walk on them now due to the liability issues.

We used to walk the tracks in the Butterfield Odin area back when they were Chicago and Northwestern rails. When the Union Pacific took over, they had their men out lickity-split letting people know that we were no longer welcome on their right-of-ways.

I found your comments on RR tracks very timely as I was just thinking about hunting with my Dad years ago in Dwight, IL. Every opening day of pheasant season the crossroads had vehicles in it for miles. The hunt was always productive.Great memories!!

You know it really was, no fus no mus, just pull up get out and go. or a bud could drop you off and he could go to the next road and start while you walked to the car then you could go and pick them up at the next one. Nobody quizing you, or tracking down land owners for hopefull permission it was user friendly I guess. And I never saw litter either come to think of it.

I know we could here for a while back in the late 70's early 80's. Then they put up signs and here it is jail time for trespassing and a fine for the hunting.---Bob

Tracks and right of ways have always been considered private ground in Kansas and you need permittion to trespass on them.

We still don't have any problem in our area and everyone uses them. And as far as Right of ways are concerned, around here they are paid for by hard working American English speaking folks and the land belongs to the TAX Payer So it is far from tresspassing.
