Resident Opener for Kansas?

Just read a thread in the South Dakota sub-forum about the "residential opener" up there. And we know that does not discourage non-residents from going to SD because it is the most commerically successful pheasant hunting destination in the US. The residential opener insures SD residents three days of exclusive, pre-general season access to walk-in and other hunting land open to the public. Nice deal for them.

Thats a nice deal for residents, especially for a state with such commercialized upland hunting. Lets just hope KS never gets to that point. I like to be able to knock on doors although it's much tougher now than it used to be.

If KS copied SD, the walk-in, SWAs, federal public hunting areas, etc., would have an early 3-day resident only season with the regular statewide season open to one and all as currently scheduled. I wonder if this would encourage greater commericialization of pheasant hunting in KS.

I have set the timer on my phone to see how long it takes Old and New to respond with his opinion on this one. Seems to me he had one, but I can't remember what it was:D

I don't see Kansas ever doing the resident opener, the state looks at all the money they'd be missing out for non-residents to sit at home for those days. Probably also feel there is the perception if Kansas were to do that, some out of staters would say they'll just go to SD to hunt instead.

I'm fine with allowing a resident opener, as long as my lifetime license lets me be considered a resident. :)

SD probably does it to throw their residents a bone since they get soooo many oos hunters opening weekend. It's a kind gesture towards their residnets.

Just a guess. I have no facts to back that up.

I wonder when Colorado will do that for in state elk hunters.... See how all the out of staters like that lol.:D

Good, they should incentivize their more rural residents something. Once they've limited you guys in CO to sling-shots it ain't gonna matter much anyway:D

HA! You and I were thinking the same thing carp:D

Now he is purposefully not commenting to despite us. Don't think for a minute he hasn't read it. Ok just to spur it a little. I think it is a good idea. Anything to keep those lying, non basketball playing missourians and the pot smokin' tree huggin coloradians out of here for an extra week, can't be a bad thing. Can it?:D
