Rescue find...

I got a call last week from the Amarillo GSP rescue; I went to the humane society and picked up a couple of GSP's. Found a foster home for a beautiful female and took the little male home with me. Just for fun, I took him to the baseball field with my GSP Taz. What a find...he picked up commands immediately (I'm sure he has had some training). He is around a year old and will start a training regimen tomorrow. He is happy and will make a nice addition to our home. And his new name you ask is ... Repo! Will get a pic whenever I get him to stand still long enough.

Good boy Jim. I swear my next Brittany is going to be from the Brittany Rescue here in Spokane. I love that name it strikes me as fitting the dog......Bob

Good looking dog Jim. Good Luck you could have a winner......Bob

Thanks Bob...I'm sure I have posted this pic of my other GSP Taz...I rescued him in December 07; here he is at a hunt in OK March 09. As of today, my new boy Repo may actually have more athletic ability than Taz. Today we covered heel, here, fetch, dead bird, and drop. I will get him up on a barrel in a few weeks. He has a ways to go but I do believe he will be able to go out and work with Taz in the field this year. As for rescues, Repo makes the 5th GSP we have placed this year in Amarillo. If anybody on this forum is near Amarillo, the www.texasgsp.org group will be at Gander Mtn. this Sunday with several dogs. $85 gets the dog (spayed/neutered and all shots and chip).

Man Jim, that is a heck of a deal your Rescue is offering. I don't what it is around here. But I have heard about other places and they are much more expensive......Bob

Normally, the adoption is much higher; however the dogs we will have on Sunday have been fostered in Amarillo and have came from the humane society or SPCA as strays or owner surrenders. The nominal fee covers the cost of those entities. If we have to take them to Dallas to the Texas GSP rescue, the price would obviously go up.

Just to let everyone know what I do with Texas GSP; they call me from Amarillo and I go evaluate the dog to see if he/she/it is "birdie". If so, I get the dogs headed toward the hunting groups or trainers in the area. If not, the dogs go to the pet side of life. Of course, it's like the story of the starfish...we can't save them all; but we have saved many. As I begin my 28th year in education, I have helped many kiddos, but the look that lost dog gives you when he feels safe is like nothing else.

We just got two beautiful white and liver males in this week and for you long tail fans, they have full tails (go figure). Crap...a shorthair with a long tail; what's next - JMc driving a Ford...:D If anybody is interested, let me know ASAP.

Happy Dog

You've made a dog happy and he's out front for you. Nice man-dog combo.

Thanks for sharing your story. I really like the looks of your newest addition! Best of luck with him and you deserve any rewards he brings to you.

Thanks guys for the kind words; Repo is now in Poynor and will begin a new training regimen from my son at www.ggsportsman.com. I am hoping he will be ready to run with my big boy this year. Repo is a great dog and has adjusted extremely well.

It's been about two weeks now. How is Repo doing? I hope dog and master are a happy combo.

Man...I am thing about changing my user name to Rodney Dangerfiled...no respect. With school starting next week and you guys giving me grief on the truck...geez. But here is the good news; after a run in with a bee sting in the neck, Repo is doing great. I took him down to my son in Tyler and he has him on birds as we speak. I think he is a keeper. I'll keep everybody informed. I am hoping to run him with Taz before the season ends. Also we have fostered and adopted out 3 more GSP's from the Amarillo Humane Society since I picked up Repo. And Oh by the way...I am currently trying to work a deal on a 07 F150 Lariat 4x4. I have to admit, it's a nice truck so we will see.
