NSTRA's national trial the Purina Endurance Classic kicked off today in Lewistown, MT. Their are 112 dogs entered which means 14 braces per field for both today and tomorrow. It's a beat your bracemate format so the 14 brace winners and the 2 highest scoring non-brace winner advance to the field of 64 on Friday. Elle and I advanced with a 2 point win over our bracemate. That was the closest brace of the day. I was very happy with her run and met my objective of advancing to the second round. If we are fortunate enough to advance to Saturday it will be a real bonus. I'll report back after Friday.

Elle won her brace today and will now advance to the final braces tomorrow. She is one of 32 dogs moving forward of the 112 that started. It will all come to a conclusion by tomorrow evening. She has exceeded my expectations so at this point everything is just gravey. But dang, I'm having a great time!!

WAY2GO, George! You guys are running strong in that big trial!:10sign:

All the Best the rest of the way. All you need now, is some "Field Trial Luck".

And I hope you both get it!!

Well, the run we had going came to an end on Saturday morning when we lost a brace. But we made it to the final 32 dogs and that means we made it further than 80 of the 112 dogs that started the trial. Everyone told us we did great for our first national by advancing to Saturday's competition. We had a great time. We'll get 'em next year!! :)

My hats' off to you! I imagine that in order to be competitive at that level you would need to start with a great dog and then invest a lot of time in training and conditioning. Lots of hard work, but obviously you are seeing good results. Again, WELL DONE!

George,

You and Elle both have a whole lot to be proud of re yr performance at the Nationals. Great outcome which came as a result of a whole lot of hard work- conditioning, training, handling her in the heat of competiton, etc etc.

GREAT JOB!!:10sign:

People often ask me if I trained Elle myself for these trials or had someone else do it. I always have to laugh as I have not sent her to anyone and I have spent ZERO amount of time training her myself. Oh, I work with her on odedience and conditioning, but have never spent any time actually training for the trials. It's all 100% natural ability. She is a pretty special dog. She learns fast and handles like a dream in the field. Plus she has the energy and drive to make a pretty decent trial dog. But mostly she is my pet and pheasant dog. Sleeps in bed with the wife and I and basically spoiled rotten. And probably the most loving dog I've ever owned. I guess she is one of those "once in a lifetime dogs".
