Cousin said he and another cousin and two others hunted all day near Palco and saw one phez and one small covey of quail.

Yeah we hunted up around Stockton and saw a covey of quail and a few roosters. Walked until lunch time. Not a lot of birds

I hunted very briefly in northwest a couple weeks ago, probably 5 hours total. I put up 6 pheasants and one lone chicken on a combo of very good private and one WIHA tract, behind a very experienced lab and a coming on spaniel. The private was pretty discouraging, but it was also a very small sample size.

I used to go out to Kansas and feel really connected with the place, and just kind of in love with being out there, but now it's just depressing. I can't help but get depressed at how dismal the bird hunting is, the shorn ditches and waterways everywhere, the pitiful corn. I will say, Mexican immigrants have sure made the small-town food better.

I had a really good report from the northwest about 3 weeks ago. But, this guy knows everyone in the county and can hunt wherever he wants pretty much. Had the same report on quail an hour east of that same area but same story with the private ground. More birds than they’ve seen in a few years. Both farm or are from the area and know everyone out there.

If you’re hunting wiha you can pretty much forget about birds. Any good wiha ground (which is few and far between) gets the crap hunted outa it.
