WOW. What a difference a little rain will make after a drought. Never thought I'd be gettin stuck in the Kubota or the sprayer making ruts in the field.

What I noticed on return trip to the farm this week is how all the pasture and road ditch grass has taken off incredibly. Lots and lots of cover. One might even expect hay prices could get back to where they were on the low side.

Fun to see cattle covered in grass and wallowing around in a water hole near a corner of a field.

Milo and corn food plots have emerged and the winter wheat is starting to head out.

I expect the hens are sitting on nests now and the hatch might be a little behind but it was 87 degrees yesterday which is nice a toasty for the new broods.

Here's a windbreak loaded with alfalfa and where you might expect a hen to setup a nest. I had to spot spray the occasional thistles which were fairly bad this year.

Here is a winterwheat food plot strip in newly planted CP 25 CRP

Here is a close up of the newly emerged CRP planting. Got to look close to see where the planter went.

happy to see SD catch up to the rest of the plains states moisture wise... when i was down turkey hunting in nebraska may 20th or so they had shine-knee high alfalfa growing & crp grass damn near the same height they had plenty of nesting cover down there & herd plenty of pheasants they have a lot of center pivot irrigation in that country & thus alot of pheasant turkey quail & in the sandhills tons of prairie grouse great state to hunt... herd more pheasants down wear i was in nebraska then wear i was in south dakota turkey hunting that was crazy for me...???

One thing I have noticed this year is there is not nearly the insect pressure as I have seen in previous years. I have not needed to spray around buildings yet and that is unusual. Usually your windshield is plastered with bugs but that is no t the case.........yet. With the recent heat everything is busting loose.

Good to hear SD is doing good on moisture. I think the chicks will hatch about the ideal time with lots of insects and warmer weather ahead.

SMO did you get any turkeys?

No turkeys HW.

I was out spraying trees this morning and came across this interesting pattern on the tree fabric. Can you identify it? I just had to chuckle when I saw it.

Immediately thought there should be a pheasant crossing sign in the area.

Reminds me of myself in the woods! Good thing his feet were muddy or he would of been lost!!!!! LOL!!!

Nice of you to provide a nice home for that THISTLE plant--LOL:D
