Ready for some Doves

I tell you what, with all this rain we have been getting (at least down here around the Springs and east) the sunflowers are sprouting up like wildfire. It looks like it maybe a good opening day.

Anyone have any idea on how the bird numbers are locally? I know it can change like that with a cold front or anything.

I am taking my 12yr old son out dove hunting for the first time. He went pheasant last year. A little different with doves though, not as much walking.

I found a spot out east I am hoping works out. The one thing I hate the most about doves in Colorado is that it can be so hit or miss.

And I hate driving hours, way early, and then setting up and seeing like one or two birds all morning.

Well if it was easy they would call it killing instead of hunting were taking my 9 year old on his first dove hunt on saturday I'll be happy if he even gets 1,
but the way it looks that shouldnt be a problem.Good luck to you and yours keep it safe and keep it fun and you'll have a hunting partner for life or until he discovers girls.

Yeah, he is staring too

Saturday? Not this Saturday? I like when the season is on a weekday, because there are not as many people out.

No, there smartass :p I don't mind driving, I have driven so much and so far, because you just never know and you won't unless you try.

The thing is I am retired Air Force. I was born and raised down in Texas and I grew up hunting doves there. They are the size of pigeons down there and all over the place:10sign:

So I was spoiled....now that I am retired from active duty and living here (my kids are in high school in the Springs, so that is why I didn't move back, plus it is too damn HOT:eek::eek:

But I will take my son out so he can experience it and my dog as well....it is always fun to exercise my 2nd amendment right to shoot a gun

If the weather does what its supposed to, the La Junta area can be on fire, but if we get our normal cold front right before the openner it can really suck LOL!

I've pretty much turned Sept 1st into a Grouse & early Honker event. Weather isnt as much an issue, in fact its down right nice in the high country and the birds are a heck of a lot bigger and tastier!

Honkers????? Where in Colorado do they allow light or dark goose hunting 1 September?

I know you can back east....

Greg

Well I do live in the Springs, although I have in-laws that live in Silverton and Montrose....

I didn't realize the geese were so numerous over there....
