Question About VPA-HIP

Formally known as the "Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program", Kansas has or will receive $1.5 million in funding.

A few of questions for those of you "in the know".

1) Has Kansas actually received this money?
2) Will it be spent in addition to what Kansas is already spending (ie: will more money actually be spent or will the state simply decrease their budget for this type of expenditure by 1.5 million which effectively puts 1.5 million back into the state's pocket)?
3) Will some of it be used to try and increase the WIHA program?
4) Has anybody actually seen or heard where this money is being spent?

The KDWP announced on October 4 of last year that they had been awarded the $1.5 million. I'm just wondering where it is, how it's being spent, and if it will actually benefit the sportsman.

Here are a few links to info about the program. Everything I have found is pretty vague.

Sir,

I've seen one CRP field that I believe is enrolled. I have a list of phone #'s for the guys you're supposed to contact for permission. The only reason I say "I believe" is b/c I'm not 100% sure the name of the program, but the word "habitat" was in there and I'm pretty sure it created a quirky acronym.

PM me if you want more specific details. I ain't tellin' the world where the one is I found b/c they'll all find out soon enough;)

I owe you a scouting report. While I would normally send this via PM, I don't mind sharing with the entire internet world that it was an utter disappointment. This is going to be the type of season you visit different areas of the state to refresh dear memories, bond with your dogs and maybe some secondary friends:D, and well....stop and "smell the roses" so to speak. We're not going to be busy reloading and "bothered" by cleaning limits of birds too often this season, so it will free us up to do other things.

Yes!

Yes, KDWPT is currently rolling out this program. It will increase WIHA acreage, and is in addition to existing WIHA funding.

The primary focus right now is enrolling cropland into CCRP practices (buffer strips and pivot corners). By so doing, we increase habitat (high quality/abundance habitat based on past research), put the land into WIHA for a 10 or 15 year contract (that's a long-term access lease). Biologists are also enrolling whole field CRP acreage.

This is a great opportunity for long-term access acreages with improved habitat (both important objectives of VPA).
