Question about papers

I bought a Brittany puppy last year with the understanding that the breeder would mail my papers(big mistake). She was born in June 2013 and I am very happy with her but I still have no papers. If I get the sire and dams registration numbers can I register her without his assistance? I have called him several times about this always with the same answer "I am sending them". To make matters worse he is in NC and I am in Nebraska. I bought the puppy because she is from the same line as my other dogs.

Do you know anything about this breeder? Is he/she reputable? Do they have a web site?

There is really no excuse for any breeder to not get you the papers right away. My guess is that one or both of the parents do not have papers. Or he never registered the litter. My guess is that you can't register your dog without the papers from the breeder. I doubt they would just take the registration numbers from the parents and allow to register your dog. Anyone could get the numbers of 2 dogs and then say they have a pup from them and register them. Don't think that would work.

I don't think it would be bad to post the name of the breeder so someone else doesn't get into the same situation as you. As long as you don't bash they on this site and only state the facts as they pertain to you.

This breeder bought several dogs from the John Edwards line of Brittanys. This is the line I have. I have done some checking since I bought my pup and found that he is very sloppy with getting out papers. I just don't understand why people are like this. I have a very good male that I had planned to breed to this dog if she turned out to be good and I think she will. She was pointing wild birds last year at 7-8 months old. I believe he sells labs and setters as well.

I there anything some of the other top name Brittany breeders in NC can do to bring pressure on him? I'm thinking of John Edwards and Nolan Huffman.

How about a report to the Better Business Bureau?

Unfortunately Mr. Edwards is passed. I may look into the better business bureau though. Good friend of mine is having the same issue with him. He is planning to make a trip to his house. He lives in NC. Breeder was nice enough on the phone but I have lost all patience. Lost my cool with him this weekend. Of course he hung up on me. I am not interested in breeding dogs to sale I just am trying to keep the line going because I really like the dogs. I can't however keep a whole litter of puppies and will need to sale some of them.

Sent a letter to AKC about this breeder. Found out they would make a phone call. Problem I have is that my wife picked the pup up for me and got no bill of sale. Folks stay away from Tobacco Stick Kennels and Preserve in Biscoe,NC if you want papers with your pup. He not only sells Brittanys but GSP's and Setters.
