Here's a pic of My Gordon Setter/Lab mix on point on a Covey of quail with a friends German Shorthair.

His daddy was the Gordon, best dang dog I ever hunted behind and he's picked up right where his dad left off. One of the best dead bird hunting dogs I've ever had won't qiut until we find it or call him off. We call him a Gorbrador

gordon dog

you mention something you don't hear much about and that is teaching your dog to hunt dead. most dogs don't like doing it, finding a dead bird is work, running around trying to find another one for two hours is fun. glad he is on it, bet most of the poster's never heard of it and certainly never taught it

cheers to you

Mustistuff, His dad the Gordon would hunt dead with the best of them also. He was good at it and then on one dead pheasant up in SD he got spurred and I think it made him mad, from that day on he hardly ever lost a dead bird it was fun to watch.

I have had a couple of Gordons in the past, one of them was among the best dog I have ever hunted over.

I have hunted Gordons my whole life. The last brother, sister pair I had I would put against any dog finding pheasants. Point, retrieve, water retrieve, back, hunt dead you name it they would do it. I still have the male, I lost his sister two years ago. I am starting two, year old pups now that are showing a lot of promise also. I have hunted my Gordons with a lot of dogs over the years, and they don't get shown up finding birds.
