Got word last week that the new GSP pup has been born. Will be picking her up 8/20. Been twelve and half years since I had a pup. Not sure what to feed her. Been feeding the old dog Hank's Premium Dog Food. What's the suggestions out there for puppy food?
I started out my new pup on Pro Plan Large Breed puppy. After doing some research I am already transitioning him to Diamond Naturals Large Breed Puppy. My dogs all seem to do great on Diamond Naturals. I think Pro Plan is a decent product but I don't think the quality matches the price.
Be sure to talk to your breeder and buy or beg a small quantity of what they feed for transitioning.
There was a thread a while back that had a link to a survey/ranking of common brands of dog food. I think FCSpringer may have been the O.P.
that pup is going to grow pretty fast- I'd ask your breeder what and how often he's been feeding the pups- they'll most likely give you some- start on that and since your happy with what your old dog is eating- it's probably good enough to start mixing with the food after a day or so- watch over feeding- cup in the morning and cup in the evening should do just fine-
most would say there's no real reason to feed a pup puppy food- and most all dog foods that have been arround a few years are good
first few days you'll probably have suspicious stools- give it a bit of time
you could post the ingredient list and protien/fat content-
perhaps a better idea of the amount and if a switch is needed
could say- are you planning on feeding any sorts of table scraps or treats
