Pick up an atlas at Gander or Cabelas with all of the state land in it. Also, there should be an atlas out this summer from the DNR for the new Walk in Areas.

+1 for me on this idea. Great map worth its weight.
You can also go online at the Minnesota DNR website and find the compass section. It will show you all of the WMA and other hunting options along with discriptions of each. Here is the link -

Not sure where you live, but if you can do it when the season comes around again. Try to head south west about 2-2.5hrs from the twin cities. Less hunters and more birds, especially with this mild winter, should be more birds for your son to get hooked on! If you really want to get him hooked head 6hrs west to south dakota, did the trick for me over 17yrs ago! Haven't missed a year out there since! Good luck!
