Public hunting. PLEASE HELP

I'll leave it to the Iowans, but it would be a surprise to me to find out Iowa released any birds in a state program. As far as I know, Iowa has not released birds for at least 40 years, probably longer. They did pass a law allowing private stocking by individuals and groups from Iowa approved sources, a pathetic band-aid for a massive loss of habitat and miserable weather problem. Looks like short of a preserve, you'll have to hunt the wily wild pheasants in there diminished numbers, that's also the good news because at least if successful you have a real hard earned prize, not some barnyard chicken. Good Luck.

To the best of my knowledge the great state of Iowa does not stock birds-I had a nice conversation about it with our local DNR guy last year and it basically came down to money. I know its the other side of the state for you but I had some decent luck last year up in Palo Alton, Clay, and Emmet county-lots of public land, if you go opening day, you'll have some company.
