Just a suggestion, but look into some of the second tier breeders. Tiger Mountain and Black Forest seem to have the most demand, making it very unlikely that you'll get pick of the litter if you're not a repeat customer and running APLA events. Look into Lankas in Kansas, Trieven in Wyoming, and Top Dog Kennels in South Dakota as well. I was able to get pick of the females in a Lankas breeding and got a great dog. I don't like to get into whose dog is better debates, but I used a trainer who mostly trains Black Forest and Tiger Mountain dogs, and she thought my dog had every bit as much ability as those dogs. My trainer also mentioned that the previous Lankas dog that she trained was the dog she used for demonstrations on what a pointing lab can do. My family also had two Trieven dogs when I was a kid, before they moved to Wyoming and started focusing on pointing labs. Trieven dogs were considered some of the best AKC field trial dogs back in those days. Their pointing labs come from the same lines. Trieven's owners do not run APLA events, so you won't see many APLA titled Trieven dogs, but they produce excellent dogs. In fact, you'll see the Trieven name quite often in elite pointing lab lines. I had planned to get a Trieven dog, but bought a Lankas dog instead because I felt equally comfortable with Lankas, and they had a good breeding sooner than Trieven.
I've seen some very good Black Forest dogs and know that Tiger Mountain has the same reputation, so I'm sure you can't go wrong there. Just don't assume that one breeding is necessarily better because of APLA titles. It's not like all the dogs from the in demand kennels are beating all the dogs at the other kennels at these APLA events. At the APLA event in CO that my dog ran in, it seemed like half the dogs were Black Forest dogs. If you can, visit some breeders and watch their dogs work. That'll tell you more than titles. Just my two cents.
