Got my pup last year. Beth, my vizsla, got me into a bunch of covey’s down here in Texas last year. Looking north to hunt some pheasants. Any tips?

Pheasants can be murder for an inexperienced dog with their running, especially out from under a point. Decide before you hit the field what you're criteria are of what you are going to shoot. A limit of birds only from good points can be had, but you'll end up letting alot of birds go. Even the best, experienced dogs can struggle to pin them roosters. Hunting is much better for man and beast after the weather has cooled, the birds seem to run less and the scenting is much better. Sadly that weather change is unpredictable, sometimes its before the season starts other times its Thanksgiving or later.

I’ve been three times, traveling from long distance stack the odds and stay in a place with lots of public within 80 miles. Some are good some are bad, seeing and finding birds didn’t seem to be an issue for me, getting them in the bag after they are running for there lives every day was tough in a good way. Be moble
