Pheasants, dogs and snow

With the weather being a little warmer I decided to take all three dogs out to run in the snow. I'm still driving right to the fields to avoid the gun range. As I drove down the lane I saw a few birds:

There were about 12 hens and one rooster in this group.

I drove past this area and parked the truck. I let the dogs out and took the starter pistol along to do some gun intro for Champ. He didn't seem to notice the shots and tried his best to keep up with Nittany and Blitz. But the snow
made it difficult for Champ and he came back to the area I was walking in. Here are some pictures from our walk.

Nittany and Blitz did have one point before I loaded them back in the truck.

After I put Nittany and Blitz in the truck I decided to let Champ smell the area the birds were in when I arrived. Once he hit the bird tracks he really started to slow down and even had a point. He worked his way to the neighbors pine trees and was really interested in the area. But since its not on the property I can run on, I had to pick him up. I was happy with how he acted in the area where the birds were located.

On the way out I took a couple of other pictures.

The run only lasted 20 or 30 minutes but it was good for Champ (Nittany and Blitz, too). I wish the 40 degrees would stick around but it isn't.

Neat photos as usual! :10sign: That's a lucky Rooster.:D

You're lucky to have that kind of training area so close to your house. The little guy seems to be doing well.
Thanks for the pictures.

That looks to be some good woody winter cover. It looks like the area has all the proper habitat..Is there any more habitat work you want to do?

I would like to have some work done on the land that has been in beans the past few years. But it's not up to me for that to happen. I'm pretty sure the food plot will be expanded this year.

It is private land that is in a co-op program. Hunting is available to the public with written permission. It has 17 acres that are in CREP.

wow that is pretty cool. Some great opportunities where you all live. I have a hunting (deer) cabin right near Ricketts Glen. Anyone familiar with that area and poss. pheasant hunting areas?

You could use your deer cabin as a base camp for pheasant hunting as well. Your within driving distance to the Central Susquehanna WPRA which in the future will open back up to hunting.

That would be great, I'll have to look into that spot. I have such great luck deer hunting Chester County that I rarely go up to that cabin for hunting anymore, now its just a vacation spot for my family if I can ever get off of work. But if I get wind of a pheasant spot around it, oh boy its game on.
