Pheasant tracks!

It's been years since I've seen or heard a pheasant around here. We used to have quite a pocket of them up until about 10 or 12 yrs ago.

This morning I took the truck and drove back to the pond to check for coyotes and I actually spotted some pheasant tracks in the snow on top of the pond dam. May have been a couple of birds up there. It looked like they may have been staying in the brush piles and over growth below the dam.

Perhaps not haying anymore will help revive them some. Kind of strange how a pheasant can hide or elude. I'm hoping to get some habitat projects started, something I should have done years ago.

Sounds like NE Kansas and SW Kansas are about equal on pheasant numbers now.:):(

LOL! I still think you have us beat by just a tad! But, it was encouraging to see some tracks! I'd thought for sure there wasn't a single bird left around here.

I still have some coyotes to kill and there is always the wandering house cat that needs taken care of as well!

My wife and I was on the tractor yesterday gathering round bales ahead of the next blizzard and when I went to pick up a bale, a rooster came out from behind it. Told my wife I would leave that bale and get another one. Made several trips from field to corral and did actually see two roosters and two hens. Asked the Lord to let them be fruitful and multiply. Haven't seen any quail or chicken yet, but hope there is some seed stock for the future.

Good news is, You guys. For sure, almost,:) There will be a couple more birds hanging around then what You will see. :10sign:

Go get those Yotes,

So thankful you and the birds ultimately are getting some moisture. In all my prayers, the wildlife has been included. If I were to never get a chance to hunt again I still pray for the survival and well being of the animals and birds that have given me something I find hard to define for all these years. Pleasure would be part of it but something more like a deeper faith and respect for life itself. I think only a hunter can comprehend what I am poorly expressing, but it is something special. I will have to give it more thought ...perhaps in a different thread though.
