Pheasant Hunting Sunday of Deer Opener

I'm wondering what your opinions are about pheasant hunting this Sunday, the second day of the Deer opener. I really wanted to get out this weekend, but I forgot about the Deer opener. I haven't hunted deer in several years.

I was planning to hit small the WPA's and WMA's around Litchfield, MN this Sunday. Do you think there would be a lot of deer hunters in these areas on Sunday? Not sure I want to be ducking rifle shots while tromping around looking for pheasants. Also worried about the pointer.

Speaking of Litchfield, anyone have any luck with pheasants in that area this Fall?

Thanks!

I will be taking the next 2 weekends off. It's not worth the risk to me or my dog. I may hit a couple spots mid-week if I don't see any deer hunters about.

Public land near Lichfield has been really poor for me this year.

Put an orange vest on and if a truck is parked there move on. Youl be fine. Not sure about the area though no clue. I find some small publics are good because the private land has been hit next to it as well.

I went out last year on deer opener weekend. It was horrible. People everywhere. I am staying in.

I would try farther west from Willmar to Marshall. If you find a spot that is void of vehicles go ahead, but you may want a vest for your pooch. I personally take a break during the deer gun season.

I wouldn't hunt upland anywhere in MN during the deer gun season where there are antlerless permits.
To many MN hunters have the "brown it's down" attitude.

I would say your best bet's are WPA and WIA areas to hunt as i am pretty sure no big game hunting is allowed on these types of public land!

The Litchfield area bird numbers are low. I wont even shoot one by my house this year.

I would go south west. Maybe run the dog at a game farm Sunday then you wont have any worries and the money you save on gas put towards birds.

After hunting deer opener one year I have decided to avoid these weekends at all cost!

Too many people out and too much shooting to make me feel comfortable.

Last year I found a spot that had no cars parked. I ran my dogs for awhile and got about a half mile from the road. We pushed through some brush and I popped out in a clearing. I looked up and my dogs we 10 yards from a deer hunter on the ground leaning against a tree. We totally ruined the guy's hunt. If you did that to the wrong guy.....

Im going out this weekend. WIA's and WPA's. If I see any orange I just wont walk it and move on to the next one. Plan on hunting mostly big grass areas with cut corn around them. If someone is hunting it I will be able to see them. The dog will have an orange vest on.

In a word: Nope. I am a deer hunter, have family who hunt deer and generally support the sport. That said, I am not risking my pups anywhere afield until the season is over.

It might be different if I was on private land, but not on public.

I will just make my peace with it. Daisy, on the other hand, would rather bite `em in the face... :p
