Patterning and adjusting fire!

Especially for your Benelli...have you put a bore-light (any small flashlight) down the barrel to ensure the choke fits true/straight. Both Beretta and Benelli have had issues with this in the past. They'd cut/threaded the barrels a bit poorly. The chokes ended up seating off center. I'd imagine it's still possible that one or two gets out occasionally. I personally had a Beretta that was so bad my pet steel handloads shot a full foot and a half high and to the left.
I haven’t but I will now. Thanks for the suggestion.

When my bead fell off my Montefeltro about 20 years ago my shooting improved…same thing when the bead fell off my benelli ultralight…both were obnoxious fluorescent deals…a demure silver bead is okay, as my doubles all have…don’t really grab my attention…
When I bought the Franchi I shot, it did not have its front bead. I don’t look at them either but like to have a small one on there for some reason. My Legacy and my Browning both have a fiber optic bead that I can’t stand. I’m going to have a different bead put on both. I used to think I’d like the fiber optic, but I find it distracting now.

I also think I was trying to hard to sight down the barrel like a Turkey gun. I need to mount the gun like I would if I was shooting birds and pattern it like that. That may help with the up and down but the left and right was severe enough I think there may be other issues. I only say that because the Franchi pattern was centered.

Went out to the range yesterday to test some sample 7/8 oz. 12 ga. loads with the new Perfect Pattern powder in the 725. I had the 5-stand all to myself, and with a rare no-wind day, it was perfect for testing. Two of the stations had long crossing birds starting level and then dropping quickly. Even though that 725 has a flat 50/50 pattern, I still found myself shooting over the targets. But, since real birds rise not fall, I'm not concerned missing a dropping target. For me, holding under a target is just not natural, as is shooting rabbit clays on the ground (blockers ahead, right).

If I suspect a problem, I hang an old sheet with a spray paint spot about the size of a soft ball up, high enough to replicate a bird. Then step back about 12 yards. Start with a low gun. Pull up fast but not rushing. Put the bead on the spot and shoot. I do it until I get a hole blown through. And there you go. If it's not where I want it, then I'll pattern off a bench to make sure. If it's a little high, I don't worry about it. Any other direction and it goes by by. I haven't seen to many bad ones, but a few. Three CZ'S in a row. Sorry CZ owners. Obviously, I really wanted to like them. My buddy has one he loves.
