Outside my normal quail range

Couldn't get down the roads today to my normal covers, exept for one. Turned ole Obie loose and the sucker takes off down the road! I'm like WTH? 200 yrds down the road my GPS says he's on point. Great! Can't get across the tight barbed wire fence and watched a nice covey get up just outa range. Head on in and he finds a single, shoot it. Go a bit further and he nails another big covey in some trees. Bang! No bird.

Head back to truck and start north and west for dryer roads. Get west of White City and get permission to hunt a huge piece of CRP with hedgerows. Ideal!

425 yrds north Obie is on point. Finally get to him and think oh yeah gotta be a covey of quail. Nope, nothing. Only thing I can figure is it musta been a phez in the hedge row sunning and ran off on him. Go further and a few yrds outside another hedge row he's locked up. Stomp stomp nothing. Stomp stomp whirrr big covey of birds. Shot the biggest bobs I've ever seen out of that place. I mean they were big! Is there a nuke plant close? Lol!

Anyway, does anyone know if there are phez in that area? West and north of council grove. Anyone hunt out that way?

Very well could be a few pheasant in that area. Its been about 15 years but watched two roosters walk a fence row just north of Emporia while turkey hunting one spring. That next fall the landowners son shot a rooster while hunting quail on that property. Also have some good friends that hunt quail a lot around Emporia and they talk of once in a while seeing tracks and even seeing some in CRP while quail hunting.

There are a few pheasants but not very many. Don't know why because there are plenty of good looking areas, but very few pheasants.
