I have a two year old GSP and a 13 week old GSP. Come spring time I am going to train the pup on birds. There are going to be many things that are different from the way I trained my older dog. Is it an old wives tale that old dogs cant learn new tricks? In this case...new methods of training?

Absolutely not DC, give it a try. Sometimes it just takes more reps and reinforcing comands more often. Especialy at that young age. The 1 1/2 year old I took back in had not much done at all when I got him, other then being a great house dog, He did not know what picking up a bird was, now he retrieves live birds, and still alive afterwards. Patience will win out for you.
