The great wide open where we hunt is a checkerboard of sections after the geological survey and the vast land grants to the railroads and homesteaders. A big landowner brought civil trespass charges against some hunters who crossed at corners without stepping on his land. The court granted summary judgment in favor of the hunters except for one for which there is a bit of evidence he stepped on the landowner's property. The landowner claims his damages are in the millions. I predict that if it's proven that the one hunter did step on his property, the owner will get one dollar in damages which is ninety-nine cents more than he's entitled to IMO.
