Not the best dog work...

I took the dogs out for what has become their morning routine run. I saw something when I let the dogs out but they were running to hard and never took notice to what was in the area.

Blitz did have another find on this bird but Mr. Rooster didn't wait for me to get there.

The dogs did a little better on the quail that are still around.

Both dogs are in this picture but Champ is hidden in the grass. There were a couple of quail walking through the field and we were able to get one to flush. Each day gets us a little closer!

Great pictures and beautiful dogs! My wife is pushing me to get a Vizsla for our next

When you have a quail flush in that scenario, what do your dogs do right now (since you can't shoot them)? Do you let them chase/catch it or are they steady to shot and just watch it flush and fly off?

They give a short chase and then I call them off the bird. The birds will stay in the area and recall to the johnny house for later use/release. I don't plant the quail but just release them instead. I think it makes the dogs more honest working the liberated birds instead of planted ones. I've had good luck with the quail surviving to the following spring and summer and like to hear them sing in those months.

Looks like your boys are going to be ready for the season!
