North Dakota Question

Banded

We are headed to North Dakota opening weekend the regulations say that non residents cant hunt state controlled lands or private lands open to the public so I called out there and they assured me there is plenty of land for us to hunt openeing week. What else is there for us to hunt? Its a long way from Tennessee for a sight seeing trip. Any help would be appreiciated.

Doesn't SD do something like this? In their case only residents can hunt the public lands (I believe). Or maybe only the residents can hunt period.

Banded, by the sound of it, you can hunt private lands for ND the "opener".

Personally if you can, move your trip further into the season . Having the option to hunt public land is a nice option to have.

SD has a weekend for Residents only--public land only prior to the regular season opener-- also has a youth hunt the weekend before that. I don't know what ND does but I'm sure the state web site will have all that info:D

Banded, You won't be able to hunt the ND State Wildlife Management areas opening week. It's funny because NR hunting license $$$$ played a major part in acquiring these State Lands.
Phez. is right, if you can, go the second week. Private land that holds pheasants may not be available. Or very spendy.
Federal Lands like the National Grasslands are open to NR's

The way I understand it is only private and Federal lands are open to NR opening week. I called the North Dakota DNR (very friendly lady) and asked for the PLOT map book. I had the 2011 edition in two days. I live in MN. She is sending me the 2012 when they are printed.

Only "Unposted" private lands are open, to anyone, and the federal lands that have been mentioned.

Pay hunt land is what is mostly available.
