North Dakota pheasants

Does anyone hunt pheasants north of hwy 94 in North Dakota? I have an opportunity for housing in the Devil's Lake area and wonder if there are pheasants in that area. I have seen that the best areas are south of 94 but I don't need the best areas to hunt. I love to just follow my dog and get some points. My dog is just a year old so it may be better if he didn't find one every few feet or when they start going up there are a 100 of them. Any advise? Thanks

I see you aren't getting any responses to your question about pheasants in the Devils Lake area. And I'm afraid I don't have any first hand expereince in that area either. I've only hunted the Mott and Hettinger areas in ND.

I searched the internet for pheasant hunting in the Devils Lake area but didn't come up with anything either. Looks like it's mainly waterfowl hunting and fishing. But having been through the area a couple years ago I can't believe there aren't any pheasants around, and maybe a few sharpies. You might try calling a couple of the waterfowl guides in the area and ask them. since they are obviously hunters, they should know about pheasants in the area.

You might also call the ND Game & Fish Dept. and question them. Maybe they can put you in touch with one of their officers in the Devils Lake area that would be able to advise you. In fact the G&F has an office in Devils Lake. Here's the number: 701-662-3617 Give them a call.

Good luck.

Devils Lake area is void of a decent pheasant population. Put and take would be about it especially after last winter (harsh).

I saw quite a few birds out there this spring, there was a lot of standing corn that they were able to hide in and feed on this winter. I'm not sure what it's like out there in the fall.
