North Central report

Spent the day out in the north central part of the state. Walked CRP early without seeing a single bird. Found a good looking stubble field with some Milo left standing. It looked like pheasant heaven. CRP on both sides and plenty of food. I spent two hours walking and finally busted a covey of quail. Probably 15 birds. I pulled the trigger on one just so Molly could get the satisfaction of having a bird in her mouth. As we hunted back towards the truck we had a rooster get up around 100 yards out. I watched it land and figured we could walk it into a corner. While doing this, Molly flushed a hen. As we got closer to the corner the rooster got up wild again and flew directly at my new truck sitting 60 or 70 yards away. By the time he cleared the truck he was out of range. Damn smart bird!
We hunted one more field and I decided it was time to head home. I did see three bucks, two three pointers and one nice heavy racked four point.
We really need some rain all over the state. It was still pretty dusty today.

Thats where we go a few times a year. From smith center east to around belleville. Havent been yet this year. Gonna run around herington tomorrow for a bit with the dogs , mostly for quail and prairie chickens or the occasional rooster hopefully.
