No Pheasants Found in Harlan Co. Nebraska

If Harlan Co. were a section of land, I hunted the west half of the NE quarter of the county all day Saturday without seeing or hearing a pheasant or seeing one piece of pheasant scat. It was the pheasant opener, yet my motel in Alma was about empty and I saw very few hunters anywhere.

I have hunted Harlan and Phelps counties for years. That is purely depressing, I assume crops are out, for the most part. Last year opening weekend we, me and the little girls, shot 6 roosters , two sharptails, and 5 quail. That was subpar. Long way to go, to see nothing! I feel for you, and me both, for what that portends for the rest of the season. I took in youth season in Missouri this year for the girls, we saw pheasants at least in North Missouri. Usually, I would have been somewhere out there where you were, have to say I'm glad I stayed closer to home. I am with Gove, I have heard good things about Hitchcock and Hayes Counties, negative reports from Dundy, Chase, have no contacts in those areas, and precious little public access.

Not sure I want to go back to NE this year. Is the SW corner supposed to have good numbers this year?
