Whats up guys. My name is Joe and I live NEPA around the Scranton area. I bought two GSP's Thanksgiving of '13 and this was the first year I ever hunted pheasants with them. These are also my first dogs. It has been a big learning curve for everyone but I am hooked. I will try to get some pics up later.

Hoping to make it to one of the flushing surveys or so.

Hey Joe,

Welcome to the site! I think you will enjoy it here, a lot of good people with the same passion and not the nonsense found on some other sites.

We would love to see some pictures of your pups and hear about some of your hunts this year.

So sit back read some old Posts and enjoy!

Welcome! Let us know if you plan to make it to any of the flushing surveys. I'll be at the one on Jan. 18th.

Thanks guys. I still have not shot a damn rooster!!!! I missed one and seen three but no kills. Hopefully soon!! The dogs have been great. The two biggest things I have trouble with is that they like to work out alittle far from me. And they dont like to hold the point for very long. If the bird starts to move they move. They are young and this was the first year with live birds but they will get the hang of it Im sure.

The white ticked one is Harleigh. She was born in Dec. of 13 and we adopted her from the local shelter. She has all of her papers and is a purebred.

And this one is Shelby. She is my buddy. I got Shelby and Zoey(she passed away in August long story) Nov. 13 from SOS Kennels. Shelby is amazing. Such a hunter. Such a worker. Unreal with the kids. And her sister was the same. Enough with that stuff and on to the pics.

Great looking pups, looking forward to your reports!

Thanks for the welcome guys. This year I have taken 7 birds. I hunted the Lackawanna State Park and Prompton Dam areas with success. I also did some hunting at Beltzville State Park and the Delaware National Forest. Seen some birds at both of those locations but as the season went later and later I was searching for the roosters!!!

I would like to start exploring alittle bit more and more as the dogs progress. This is totally new to me as I never hunted for upland birds till this year. This is also my first year to ever harvest a bird. Ive been hunting on and off for about 16--18 years. My father was more or less a deer hunter. Never did much other than rifle. I did archery for a while in high school and till I was about 23-24 then a woman came along....and then kids.....and you know the rest. Took a break from hunting for a year or two and then got back into deer hunting. Harvested my biggest buck to date in Dec. '12 rifle season.

Also had my go pro on me during that season and got this video.

After that year of hunting I slowly started getting back into everything. This year I plan on picking a new bow. And just getting out in the woods more and more. Naturally like all of you guys I have stories for days.

Hey Joe,

Thanks for the great report, that would be a nice buck anywhere but in Pa. it's a monster. :10sign:

That's a neat video, felt like I was right there.

I was standing on the ground when that guy walked up. I wasnt even setup. I dont think I got to that spot and 5 mins went by when I spotted him. By the time I got the go pro on my head he was right there as you can tell. Im hoping to get some good pics and videos from the flushing survey.

The buck is very nice and I am very happy with him, but I have been watching two other ones that are of equal size and if they made the season I will be really happy. The biggest advantage is the farmer couldnt cut the corn so its still standing!!! I passed up an 8 pointer this year that was a touch smaller than this guy. Only problem is the farm I hunt is surrounded by property that gets heavily hunted. As of last week I still saw him walking around.

Here is alittle stalking video of shelby I had also.

Joe,

I've been hunting Whitetails in Pa. since the early 70's and I'm sure your dad has told you how much it has changed. We used to see 40 deer on opening day on public land. The problem was 39 of them would be does, and you would be hoping for a legal spike buck. If you got a nice four point you felt really good about yourself and a buck like you got in 2012 would have made the paper. Well that certainly isn't the case any longer and it's been getting better every year. You might not see 40 deer on the opener any longer but out of the ten you see ,you have a good chance of seeing a buck 3 1/2 years old or older. A couple of seasons ago I missed a buck that would have been a trophy in Iowa. As far as I am concerned these are the good old days!

Those German Shorthairs sure are fine looking dogs! Nice video.
