Hello all,
I live in the southwest corner of PA and have hunted pheasants since 1962. At that time we moved to our present farm which was loaded with wild birds. Not Dakota loaded but I have seen fifty birds in a flock fly in to feed on second growth oats. Two years ago I hunted SD with some friends and I am planning on going back in 2013 with my son, son-in-law and my Lab pup who will be 2 by that time. I want to find some walk in public areas and thought this site would be a help. Thanks in advance for all your help.

I grew up in Fayette County, PA. I remember seeing flocks back in the 60's and early 70's as you described in Greene County.

I hunted Washington County, PA today. Did not move a bird on SGL. I live in Ohio and would rather hunt PA.

Sorry I can't help with SD info.

Best of luck.

Welcome aboard! It's been a while, but there are some good things happening in Pa..

Good things indeed are happening here in Pennsylvania. I have been a PF member for the last 18 years , have planted warm season grasses and food plots, and in 2006 SD pheasants were released on my farm, the first trap and transfer done here. Since then, PA has established Wild Ringneck recovery areas and my farm is right in the middle of the Pike Run area. While they haven't taken off the way we hoped, there are wild birds that have been hanging in there. We haven't had the reproductive success that we anticipated but hopefully that will turn itself around.

Satch,

Sounds like you're well aware of all the positive things happening in Pa.. Owning a farm where the first wild birds were released, I don't think it can get much better than that, you are one lucky man! We were part of the Flushing Survey in for the Central Susquehanna Chapter and so far things look really good. You boys down there started the ball rolling for sure.

Don't forget to visit the Pa. Forum and chime in!

Dan

Welcome Satch,

It sounds like you have yourself a little piece of heaven there! From all the information I have gathered the birds are reproducing but spreading to outside the WPRA so the numbers within the WPRA are not as high as everyone has hoped. I have heard reports of farmers outside the WPRA seeing broods so I guess we will wait and see! The last I heard..decision day is looming..Is there any talk of pushing the date back? If an opening is in the future I would like to see the rest of the area remain rooster only because there are wild birds in and around the Pike Run Watershed! Tell Mr. Taracido and everyone else involved Thank You!!

You guys were the ones that got this whole thing started!! Thanks!

Welcome, I also live in Fayette county and I am really enjoying all the work the PA game commission and people like you are doing! Went out yesterday and got one and missed one. If you ever need any help with any projects please let me know! I would love to get involved with helping the cause!

The chapter of PF we formed is called the Tri-County chapter which is Washington, Greene and Fayette counties. So you are in the area of the tri-county area! I'll be sure to let you know when the chapter has any events.
