I was talking to my sister in law at Christmas and she mentioned that she grew up on a farm in Carroll county Iowa and her dad owned a ton of farm ground, so my natural instinct kicked in and I asked if they had any pheasant ground. She said they did, then my brother in law called her dad and he gave me permission. He also said he has a friend that has 40 acres of crp, and he’d call him to see if we could hunt that too. He also gave us the green light.
Today my younger son and I headed over there in the fog, met up with her dad, and he gave us a tour of all of his land. We ended at the crp field and that’s where we started. We got into birds right away. We ended up shooting 4 roosters but lost 1 of them. This was my 2nd lost bird of the season, but I think my shot was high and skimmed his back enough to drop him, but not kill him.
Over all we saw about 7 roosters and around 25 hens. Most of the birds were sitting very tight so the dogs got some great contacts and retrieves.
We hit one more piece of ground afterwards and didn’t see a single bird.
I did video the hunt with an older camera and will try to edit the footage and post some highlights. I also received a new GoPro 11 today and plan on filming and posting my future hunts so be prepared to learn so new bad words
