Canary pushes everything else out, provides good cover, guessing the seeds are too small to be a food source for pheasants. It might not stand-up to snow as well as many native grasses. Might be the best cover in the fringes of wet areas that the cattail aren't in. I shoot pheasants out of canary grass every year, better than brome grass to me. Good luck getting rid of it, it is a beast.
