12 gauge Eckernforde Sauer...1953, by barrel proof.
Orlen-ed to IC - F, 26" and 6 1/2#.
Wood quality only fair...case, pretty good.
Tight as a vault tho, shot little.
Needs a pad to gain a tad of length.....but likely will shoot it a bit first.
Redo of the pre-war M8, or whatever the designation was pre-war....side clips, cocking indicators, swivels, etc.
Very basic, standard scattergun meant to return German gunmaking options to the masses.
Good quality in this first few years of production.....quality eventually dived in the 60s.
As an interesting note, this early PW gun is marked as Made In Germany...only later guns were marked as Made In West Germany, to differentiate between the lower quality east german guns eventually flooding the market.
Markings are thus a way to date PW Sauers.

And, I found a plain barrel, 26" and IC Sweet 16 barrel to side my 28" modified.
MGW reblued to like new.
Grouse and woodcock are no doubt shaking like a dog trying to pass a log chain at the news.
Or not.:)

Have a new to me 16 guage Ithaca 37 with 26" barrel and modified choke on the way to me now, bought off gunbroker last week. Should be around a 1950 gun, plus or minus a few years, gotta look at the serial number when I get it. Never had a 16, but have its twin in a 20 guage that I used on the Kansas opener last year. The 16 will be used this year.

Bought a Ruger .300 rcm with a nikon scope.Plan on using it on hogs and when I get the money to do it some elk hunting in Michigan.

Well I would really like a English stock, double trigger, SxS .410 for quail hunting but I just spent $3000 on a sick pup so its kinda out of the budget now.

I've heard and seen birds, but not a lot. There was one dummy who strolled across the farm road as I honked at him to move it along.

Hope there were enough surviving females from the last few years to propagate this year, 'cuz the weather has been great for them.

How do game farms in your areas work? The only one I've gone to has you pay for the # of birds up front, then puts them out, and off you go, hoping to find and shoot them.

Do any have you pay for only the birds you shoot, or is that unrealistic of me?

I have this sense that I'm running out of time.

I am trying to resist even looking at them. We'll see how it goes. Once I get an itch, I pretty much have to scratch it... I am hoping to go another year or two on what I already have.

It gets a lot tougher to resist when your buddies are upgrading... even your 'internet' buddies.:(

New over and under

Well I have always been a semi auto man but, I figured I would get into the o/u game. I just bought my first it is an remington/Bakail spartan spr 310 20 ga I payed just over 300 for it. Two reasons I got the gun I didn't want to get an overly expensive gun that I would be using in the field ( something i wouldn't mind if it got beat up). And I thought it was a good price. Anyone else have one or what do you guys think ? Its used but it is in really good shape.

I've got the Spartan in 20 guage as well. Have been using it exclusively the last 5 years or so. No problems whatsoever. It knocks em out of the sky just fine. I do have my eye on a nice little 28 guage ringneck side by side, but I'm too cheap at the moment.

I have a 28ga ringneck, love that little gun. It feels like an extension of my own body and seems to know exactly where a quail will be when the shot gets there.

I handled one at the new Cabelas in Wichita. Very light and easy on the eyes. Time to save my pennies!

Nice photo. The great looking dog seems to have a contemplative look on its face as if remembering with satisfaction its day's work afield.

He always seems to have that look. He's very stoic in nature. Never was much of a pup, he's always been an all work and no play kind of dog and I really love that about him.

I picked up a Stevens 5100 16 ga. SxS to go along with my 16 ga. Ithaca 37 pump and 16 ga. Citori Lightning O/U. I think my 16 ga. battery is now complete.

A new Browning Silver 20GA followed me home Wednesday, and Thursday was busting some skeet targets. The Silver is a small step down from my MAXUS, but the MAXUS does not come in a 20 YET!

Question for nrhpilot in Newton, will Boeing closing have much effect on that new Cabelas???

Well it sounds like my dream of an English stock, double trigger, SxS 410 may come true before quail season.

CRP, I'm not sure how many people are still employed with Boeing in Wichita, several years ago a company named Spirit bought most of Boeing's facilities and took many of the employees with them. With many other aircraft companies in town I don't think it should have a huge impact on the new Cabelas.
