Mike from Oklahoma Panhandle(GoPokes) I'm 50 sumthing, grew up in Central Kansas following dad, a hardheaded English Pointer the neibor and his GSP quail n pheasant huntin spoiled. Wonderful memories. Now work for one of those evil oil empires have raised/hunted GSPs for going on 30 years. Have seen the good and bad seasons in western Kansas/Ok, but for you all's information we've never seen the pheasant numbers so low! Sure there are a few pairs close to the irrigation but absolutely none in the dry land, the recent 4years of drought, haying off of most of the good CRP, heavy pressure from predator's. So to coin a phrase. "we got nothing" it will take years of responsible management and restraint for the numbers to come back to"hunting population" pheasant hunting out west use to be the best in the central region now just a memories. THis is probably not news to most of you. Please understand I've joined this forum to spread the word to fully apriciate your blessings, enjoy friends and family on all you hunting adventures, take all kind of pictures, embellish the moment you dog goes on point! It is such a wonderful sport to share with A youth. I look forward to learning of other parts of the USA pheasant hunting strong!

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to your input.

Kansas has had some really good years in the past. Mostly tied to either the soil bank years or the CRP years. With CRP acres down or hayed and the drought, it really has done a number on the upland bird numbers. There is still hope for the future, but it will take both human effort and some beneficial weather.
