Nevada Chukar Disappointing

Chukar numbers have apparently fallen off dramatically in the five years since I last hunted in northern NV. In two days of steady hunting we saw one large covey and one small covey. Two birds total bagged for two hunters. Also saw one small covey of huns -- but got no shots on them. Did see the biggest mule deer buck and big horn ram of my life, and all the beautiful scenery of that area.

Sorry to hear bc, next time come farther west and hunt north east California for quail and chukar, you'll find good hunting for both. Also the mojave desert has great quail and chukar hunting in the washes.

Sorry you didn't do well. Numbers aren't as good as five years ago, but much better than the last three years. Saturday and Sunday were tough because of the five days of rain prior to the opener. Spread the birds out and they were spooky. Yesterday and today totaly different story. What general area did you hunt?

We hunted several places between Elko and Battle Mountain north of I-80. Where did you hunt? Glad to hear you had good luck.

No problem, let ne know if you ever want to come west and I'd love to go hunting with you. We will run my springer on quail and your britts on those devil birds.

North west of Battle Mountain out of Paradise Valley.

We may have been close on Sunday afternoon when we were north of BM on Rock Creek. I didn't cover much ground there but saw one six bird covey. My buddy humped all over the north side and saw one bird fly off. The north side had no sage brush due to fire so it may have been pointless to hunt there.
