My End of Season (Colorado) Stats

With my Colorado bird hunting now close (West Slopes), I gathered up the stats for all the species I hunted. I was a bit apprehensive of posting since it looks really bad from a harvested standpoint. But I moved last year so 95% of all spots I hunted were brand new to me. On top of that only pheasant and grouse from the list have I hunted before. Chukar definitely kicked my butt. Interestingly, I only saw a single other hunter in the field during my time. Colorado really doesn't have high bird density but the variety was so much fun.

Nice stats! I’ve always been interested in things like this and need to start keeping track of my own hunting stats better. Did you see many chukars with not many shot opportunities?

It takes a bit of work to save each track. But I'm hoping over time it means I'll always remember where to check back at. And not forget any spots.

I did get good at finding the chukar and they always went back to the same spots. But my area for them is pretty bare ground rock which means you see them walking around more often than not. And that's not a great situation with pointers. I could have held them back and walked the birds up, but I was trying to get the dogs more experience. Plus I'm a pretty bad shot so there was at least 4 or 5 that I absolutely should have shot. But a few times they fly by cliffs and I don't want to shot so the dogs don't run off.

You deserve a new pair of boots!

My brother has been in pagosa 15 years or so, nice place to visit family, fish and hunt. I do like those hot springs in the fall after a day of chasing grouse!
