Hunted my oldest pointer in the cherry spot and didn't come up with one bird. Nothing. Second spot I let Obie out with the cabelas store around his neck (garmin, ecollar and name tag collar). I didn't try to reel him in right away since he had been in the box for a while. This spot was my second best spot and I had the vacuum cleaner down. Not one bird. So headed back to the area of the truck and was gonna hunt the opposite way so I turned Obie around and when he turned the corner from the bed of my truck he was gone and I mean gone.
Watched the garmin go past 200, 400, 600, 800, past 1100 yards. I wasn't worried about him as there were no roads ect. It was well past 1100 yrds when he turned east and I'm not sure how far he went that way. Then I saw the garmin showed he was headed back north towards me. The dude flat has some wheels on him and is not afraid to use them. And he absolutely has zero quit in him. He seems as fresh at the end of the day as he does the beginning. Was kind of neat to find him locked up along the edge of the timber all wet and muddy. Kind of like an old warrior. I'll see if I can get that pic posted.
After that I was able to keep him in closer at about 150-200yrds with usually just a nick on the collar. He got the idea that I was not allowing him to go at will and the rest of the day he stayed in closer with little to no use of the collar.
Each dog found several covies but nothing like last Sunday. It was wet and cold so I'm not sure where the birds were hanging out at but apparently not where I was.
