I just looked at the USDA's 2012 corn production. South Dakota's average BPA is right at 100 bushels. Down from about 140 last year. Some areas if there were no ears other areas were probably doing OK to maintain that average.
There had to be adequate moisture at pollination to get 100 bushel corn.
From what I gather some places in SD are VERY dry, some places got a few showers. And so goes the cover.
