Has anyone hunted public lands around Mobridge in the last two weeks? We are considering driving out from the east coast, really liked the Mobridge area in the past but am concerned about the bird count picture. Thanks!....hwb

sorry no info for you on the area . i just wanted to say i feel your pain on wondering what things are like in s.d. from out of state. good luck on your hunt.

Hunted the Mobridge area from 11/2 to 11/6...all public land. We had limited success but saw lots of birds. Didn't find an abundance of cover and where we found birds they were very spooky. My group consisted of 5 experienced pheasant hunters and 3 average-to-above average dogs. We have hunted the same spots for 3 years and this year was the most difficult hunting.

That being said, the Mobridge area is beautiful and we had a wonderful time.

Hunted private up river about 20 miles this past week. Public was poor at best.

The DNR officer in Mobridge may add to this discussion...

I'm heading souith and east of Mobridge on Friday, hunting private land. I'll file a report next week.

funny thing is that i heard a report that their was plenty of birds in the mobridge area.....i was about 20 miles from their and saw plenty of birds...did they not have one of the highest bird counts in the state? cover may not be the best, but that is the case all over the state....my only concern was that some of the the WIA's were mowed or grazed and the private next were being hunted by paying hunters...look for marginal grass areas close to shelterbelts or riverbottom and you will do fine......use your morning time wisely and find the birds, knock on doors, etc

Hunted Mobrige from 15-20 Nov. Private and Wia land. group of 6 with 3 dogs only managed 10 roosters, saw lots of hens.

I was in the Mobridge area early in the season, looked at a lot of the WIHA areas, 95% of them are grazed down to dirt or are corn stubble or wheat stubble, very little cover for birds.
