MN pheasants 29% down for 2013

well boys the 2013 brood count survey is here & its worse then i expected!!! 29% down & there is no GOOD or dark brown areas shown on the map??? they did mention that late hatches are not really represented in these road side studys so i hope that is the saving grace here in MN as i know for a fact that there was plenty of hens hatch n broods into july & even august this year so i think the number are off a little bit this yr???

still bad to loose habitat & the long winter must of hurt some broods looks like SW MN is wear to head this year guys??? or LQP did well also but thats nothing new...

real bummer for MN but i herd good things about ND man at least ill get in 1 great hunt this season some place new...

it was not even on the MNDNR yet guys??? i had to google 2013 MN brood count survey report to get the info it was released about a hour ago on that site???

hope your hunting areas did fair because thats the best that MN has to offer FAIR hunting at best it looks like???

Funny thing is I'm excited about these numbers. Not as bad I as I thought they would be. I've seen some very late broods as of late so that gives me some hope too.

You have to take these survey's with a grain of salt. As someone else said somewhere on this board, they drive the same routes each year and if those routes have lost habitat, so to will the numbers. Good pockets will still exist where the habitat remains strong. Unfortunately, those pockets are slowly disappearing....

Judging by the birds I have seen I would say there was a late hatch and its not as bad as 29%. I would say 15% is probably a little closer. The real problem is not the bad winter or the wet spring its loss of habitat. We need a farm bill if we want birds in the future.

the only thing that bothers me is the rate that land conservation is declining. Roadside reports and bird numbers will do nothing to hinder me heading out with my friends and dogs.. Infact I appreciate an old ugly number..keeps the feeblehearted at home..

Loss of wildlife habitat is no joke though...none at all
