MN DNR Survey

I am not a big fan of extending the season. It would lead to pushing hens as well as roosters out of good cover right before dark with cold/stormy weather moving in. If we had a severe winter in January, would it lead to road hunting stressed birds looking for some grain or gravel along the roads? Not good PR for us. Landowner tolerance? Do they want to put up with more weeks or even a month of hunting?

For me I'm a fan of it because our falls have been really warm, 80 degrees at the end of October is a bit much for hunting birds, so having a few weeks extra in January would help make up for some lost time.

Hunting pressure also drops radically in late season. I spent a week in prime South Dakota pheasant country a few years ago in January, and I ran into 2 people the entire week.

Middle of December I was out in SW MN, on a beautiful December weekend, and saw 3 other groups of guys. Pressure isn't as much of a concern (for me anyway).

I think the shooting hours are fine.

No to upping the limit earlier because then I would really struggle getting my limit most of the season. Make me feel even worse.

I wouldn’t mind the season going into January. I don’t hunt much first few weeks. Plus after Christmas this state sucks until spring and I am very bored.

Personally 9am is good ... don't change it. I'd be all about the daily limit going up. But then obviously possession has to change also. Any word on that?? south dakota residents, do you have a possession limit? I'd say the season could start same time. Possibly like mid week half week later would be great for me :):) but yes extend it a month.... Jan 31st. Your gonna have your die hards out moving birds yes but the amount of people that shut it down once it's a bit frosty and the football games are on far out number the die hards. Bird population would be hurt more from earlier start time then it would if just simply extended the season.

I agree no doubt.
