Missouri opener/Rifle…:

Hunted Missouri for this morning but quickly realized it was the opener for rifle, quickly hoped over to Kansas and had a decent hunt but was too warm by the time I got there…. Anyone have any luck in the show me state today, if you were brave enough to go out…

I got a covey up on a conservation area that was archery only. Where the dog went on point I though it was a woodcock, which usually fly up and over trees. Instead it was a nice covey that flew straight into the woods. Then the dog went on point about 50 feet away. I knew those quail flew further so I thought she was pointing lingering scent. Instead a woodcock flies up and over. In the span of about 2 minutes I had an opportunity at both quail and woodcock and never fired the gun. Coming home a nice 10 point buck ran off of our property to the neighbors. I've got to get a new hobby.
