I had the day off from work so I took the dogs out for some hunting. The dogs started off in the woods and I heard a rooster flush but I don't know if it was pointed or not. We kept working and now the dogs were working along a stand of switchgrass. I see Nittany go on point and Blitz honors as I walk up for the flush. Its a rooster and I drop him and Nittany finishes with a retrieve.
Time to move on and try to find another bird. We keep working the grass and I don't see the dogs but birds start busting out of the grass. A total of 3 hens flush out of the grass and fly off to the distant woods. After we finished this area I walked to an area that has an overgrown ditch that sometimes holds birds. On the way there Blitz had another point and I missed this rooster.
I wasn't too upset because that meant I could keep on hunting. We work the ditch but didn't find any birds. I decide to work the grass again since the dogs had some luck there. It was a good choice because the dogs had another point and this time I connected on the rooster and we had our limit.
I still had plenty of time left so I took the dogs and camera to another area to see if we could come across any woodcock or doves. We didn't find any of those birds but I did get some pictures.
I didn't see another hunter all morning and it was nice to be out. It could have been a little cooler for my liking but I think that will change soon enough.
I'll add a couple other pictures from the area I was at.
