BLEU, Now that's about as good of info as it can get.
I would not have guessed that many pheasant farms in MT.

fishminer, do you mind sharing your plans?

Pheasant

We are working with the state on a Pheasant Release Program on some Rosebud Mine Reclamation Land. We needed to identify someone that could provide mature pheasant for this program. We will be going with Michael Zangara at the Medicine Rocks Kennel Baker, MT.
I will keep you all posted.

Fishminer, Do you know the Fish, Wildlife and Parks has a "pheasant release program" You can get up to 200 pheasants per year.
You don't have to own the land to qualify.

On the F,W & P website search, "Pheasant Release Program"

Pheasant

That is what we are doing.

Fishminer, I hope you keep us posted on how the released pheasants do.
FW&P will release hens along with the roosters and in most cases where the habitat is in shape the birds establish wild populations.
It will be interesting to learn how the Rosebud birds do.

Yes, please let us know how you are fairing and all the trials and tribulations. Thanks, Bleu:thumbsup:

Pheasant

Had the Fish and Game Biologist come by today and he was very excited with what we are trying to do. I will keep you all posted.

Good, looking forward to your reports.

What is the habitat/cover like at this time.
Are there some wild birds in the area?

Sounds similar to a "tower shoot.'

Birds are released inside of a silo - either ducks or pheasants. A ring of shooters is formed around the silo site, shooting at the birds when they are released.

Apparently they are hard to hit...not my sport, however.

Cover

The biologist really liked the existing cover, the drainages with cat tails, the water holes that we have and the planting of food that we will be continuing. As for existing population, there is some, but I hope that with us planting some plots and planting grains, corn and wheat, that we will compliment the existing reclamation areas of native prairie lands.
