Looks like NRCS is going to have some major cuts.

I am glad our CRP is not coming out in the next 4 years, but a lot of the current ground in the program will be, this will likely be the end for much wildlife habitat in the state. We dont have tons of CRP in Iowa, but what we have, is what holds the majority of the birds.

This is is only a "proposed budget." Rarely does Congress pass such severe cuts to agencies and programs at once.

However, you'd have to be nieve to think that there won't be at least some slashing of certain budgets coming. Its just a matter of how much.

Agree with you all.

This bill shows that congress is likely to try to cut CRP & other conversation programs (lower enrolled acres cap, rental rates, etc.) when they start drafting the Farm Bill later. Actual conservation (CRP, EQUIP) funding is included in the Farm Bill which isn’t included in the “big beautiful bill” they’re working on, just fyi to all.

With this proposal, though, it sounds like they want to shift technical assistance from local conservation organizations rather than the NRCS. But you can’t cut NRCS support funding and have the same quality or quantity of resources available to help landowners if you just shift the assistance to another team without more funding for that group.

I wonder if we have anyone on here that works for the NRCS that can comment.

Mine is set to expire n 2027. Probably not the best timing but it is what it is. Will face that bridge when we get to it.
