Looks like good numbers

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum, but am a Colorado native and have been pheasant hunting for over 30 years. It is good to have a forum like this to discuss ideas, bounce things off each other, and generally tell good hunting stories. I have been working up in Akron for the last couple weeks, driving in from east Denver. I have noticed how great the cover is and on several occasions have seen a number of pheasants. Last Friday when there was a bit of a fog out east, I saw several roosters in the side of the road in the morning. I have seen Colorado's bird numbers go up and down over the years, but I am pretty excited about this year. Great cover, good moisture = more birds.

Can't wait to get out and walk some fields!!

this year MAY be worth a tank or two of gas. if we can put together a couple years like this one, I might get the hitch back in my giddy up

This year is looking to be better then the past few and im ready to go chase those wiley birds but first is elk and deer then birds. Even though the past years were not very good i still spent the gas just about every weekend to go out east with my cousin and our dogs. Just being out on the grassy plains or farmers feilds is better then sitting at home watching a hunting show on tv. Everyone likes to have the reward of birds in their bag but having the experience and adventure of hunting and being out in nature is soothing and recharges the mind and body. It's great to hear and see that it should be better thhis year but it really didn't matter to us we plan on heading east every weekend.

Even in the "bad" years, I have bagged an average of 27 birds. I got out all but two weekends last year, and had a very good time. My two sons started hunting last year, so that will make this year even better!

Just hunt quiet - very quiet - and you could see more birds. I hunt without a dog, and do pretty well. I also change-up which fields I hunt week-to-week, and that certainly helps.

Have a great season!

My son and I had gone on a youth antelope hunt this past weekend. We were about 20 minutes east and North of Wiggins. We saw one field that had around 15 birds in it and I would say at least 5-7 roosters. They were in low cut wheat. Always good to see that many ditch chickens. This year should be pretty epic for Colorado.

To the OP, welcome to the forum and glad to have you!

Thanks for the report from out east, glad to see things on the upswing. Now if we can just stay out of drought for a while ;)
