looking for upland vest suggestions (me not the dog)

My vest/game bag is a bit old and tattered. This will be my first season with my own dog, so I figure it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking for a vest that'll allow me to carry some extra gear for the pup in the field, plus training (water bottle, first aid kit, loops for e-collar lanyards, etc) and of course suit my basic needs - hold some shells, dead birds, blaze orange and what not. Our weather in Northern California is mild, and for the most part we've been hunting the preserve, though I hope to change that. Basically, I don't need to carry a ton of gear since we're never that far from the vehicle, but would like something with the potential to carry more should we venture out further.

any suggestions? thank.s

I just bought a new vest last year. I ended up buying a Pella Bird n Lite. This one has alot of extra room including a couple of places to put water bottles. It is a strap vest also which takes all the weight off your back. I was amazed how much I could carry and not actually feel the weight. I would def buy another one of these.

Filson Strap Vest

In mild weather I wear my Filson strap vest. I put the water bottle and bowl and other stuff in the bag. When I bend over my shells do not fall out of the pockets thanks to the stiff Tincloth it is made from.

I will 2nd that... Best Vest I've ever owned. Water bottle pouches, easy game bag access, and a nice pouch on the back for a first aid kit for the dog and whatever else you'd like to bring along.

For those looking for something cooler to wear early in the season or in warm weather check you this "Bird Belt". I like the pockets and water bottles. And I thin the pouch in back might hold a rooster or two. I'm thinking of getting one to use in the NSTRA field trials.

How big is the game bag? Big enough to get 3 roosters in there?

Keep the suggestions coming. I've come across the Pella before, but none of the others. This is great. thanks all.

Big enough to hold 4 roosters and a couple quail!! Thats the biggest test it got last year! ha, I don't think you need any more than that! And the straps make it so much more comfortable to wear.

Check out the big Quilomene vest. I hunt long distances with lots of water and gear for me and the dog. This strap vest holds a bunch of stuff, can carry a lot of water, and has a big bird bag. The only drawback I have found so far is that it's tough to attach a handgun holster to....not a big deal to some, unless you hunt in G bear/mtn. lion/wolf country.
